CFO-level judgment, sized to your business.
Growing and operationally complex businesses often need senior financial judgment before a full-time CFO. We provide it on a defined schedule alongside your controller or bookkeeper. Roughly $5M–$100M in revenue is a useful guide; complexity matters more.
The gap between bookkeeping and financial leadership
Your accounting team can close the books. What they usually cannot do — because it was never their role — is translate those books into decisions about pricing, capacity, hiring, capital, and risk. That gap tends to appear right when the stakes get highest.
- Month-end results explain what happened, but not what to do about it
- Budgets are built once a year and abandoned by the second quarter
- Nobody owns the connection between operating decisions and financial results
- Lender, board, and investor requests trigger a scramble every time
Who this is for
- Companies with a capable controller or bookkeeper but no senior financial leader
- Businesses preparing for financing, acquisition, or an investment process
- Owners spending their time in the accounting detail instead of on the business
- Private-equity portfolio companies needing sponsor-ready reporting
- Organizations between CFOs that need continuity and momentum
The work, specifically.
Engagements are scoped to what your business needs. These are the components we most often build.
- 01
Monthly financial leadership
A recurring cadence of review, analysis, and decision support with your leadership team — not a report dropped in an inbox.
- 02
Management reporting package
A consistent package covering results against plan, margin performance, cash position, and the operating drivers behind each.
- 03
Budgeting and forecasting
An annual operating plan with a rolling forecast that gets updated as conditions change, including scenario views for major decisions.
- 04
Strategic and capital planning
Support on pricing, capacity, capital expenditure, debt structure, and the financial modeling behind growth decisions.
- 05
Board, lender, and sponsor reporting
Reporting built for the audience that receives it, with the covenant tracking and supporting detail those relationships expect.
- 06
Accounting team development
Coaching and structure for your existing team so capability stays in the business rather than leaving with us.
What changes when this works.

Most engagements run between two and eight days per month, set by the complexity of the business and what you are working toward. Companies in an ERP implementation or a financing process typically need more time in the early months and less once the systems and reporting stabilize.
No. We work above that layer. Your team continues to own transaction processing and the close; we own the reporting, analysis, forecasting, and financial leadership built on top of it. Where the existing team has gaps, we help develop them rather than displace them.
You get senior experience immediately, at a fraction of the fully loaded cost, without a long search. The trade-off is availability — we are not in the building every day. For most companies under roughly $100 million in revenue, that trade-off works well until the role genuinely requires a full-time presence.
We plan for it. A good fractional engagement leaves behind documented processes, a working reporting package, and a functioning forecast model — which makes the eventual hire more effective and easier to recruit. We frequently help define the role and evaluate candidates.
